We understand that our operations have both positive and negative impacts on environments locally, regionally and globally, and recognise our responsibility to promote best practice to preserve, protect and promote the wellbeing of both human and natural resources.

Science Based Targets


William Hare Group have long recognised the importance of reducing the carbon emissions associated with our works. We responded to the call to action in 2021 by committing to reducing our carbon footprint in line with the 1.5oC trajectory.

As part of our strategic delivery, we are proud to announce that the SBTi has validated our near-term science-based emissions reduction targets

William Hare Group Ltd commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 50.4% by 2032 from a 2021 base year.* William Hare Group also commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions 50.4% within the same timeframe.

* The target boundary includes land-related emissions and removals from bioenergy feedstocks.

We are committed to achieving the best possible environmental performance throughout our activities and those of our supply chain. Our approach to achieving this started back in 2010 when we began measuring, managing and reducing our carbon footprint through the Achilles Carbon Reduce Programme.

William Hare is committed to achieving the best possible economic performance through its activities.

Whilst our initiatives with clients have been innovative the reduction of carbon associated with our own facilities has been methodical and thoughtful. Our recent steps toward a Net Zero Carbon Business have been:

William Hare Ltd has, through the Achilles Carbon Reduce Programme, been measuring, managing and reducing its carbon footprint since 2010 – seeing a rolling 5 year reduction, from the base year (2010) of 49.88%, as of June 2021. In order to meet the growing demands of industry, and to be future ready, William Hare Ltd have taken the next step to offset their unavoidable emissions to achieve Carbon Zero as an organisation.

10 years achievement


July 2023 saw the company achieve 10 years in carbon reduction on the Achilles Programme.

As well as the formal sustainability initiatives above William Hare Ltd are also longstanding supporters of the Woodlands Trust, committed to their strategy focusing on the role that trees and woods play in tackling the threats of climate change and nature loss.

Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships


William Hare have one of the largest apprenticeship and graduate scheme in the steel fabrication industry. The company hold apprentice positions based in Engineering, Maintenance, Fabrication and Project Management.

William Hare is a Gold member of the 5% club – with 7.3% of our staff in apprenticeship roles.

Community Engagement


William Hare believe a large factor of creating social value is by holding and taking part in community engagement activities. Over the last few years William Hare have been involved with the following:

  • We work with a core group of schools and colleges in Greater Manchester to offer work experience Placements in Engineering, Commercial, Procurement & IT.
  • 20 STEM Ambassadors to engage with schools & colleges to promote careers in engineering & manufacturing – over 80 events attended in the last 3 years.
  • Tours of production facilities to local schools and colleges.
  • Significant donations to local and national Charities.
  • Sponsor Grass Roots Football (incl. Futsal), Rugby & Netball teams.
  • Support of Industry events and organizations such as the BCSA, Build UK, The Architecture Drawing Prize.
  • We have organized several Blood donation drives in the UAE, in association with Abu Dhabi Blood Bank Services, an initiative we have supported over many years.
  • Technology in education is an initiative that provides teachers and students with new and engaging ways to work together. William Hare in the UAE donated iPads to MRC-NECC which they use as communication devices, tools to show video models for students, to take photos and as data collection tools.
  • William Hare maintains a goal of zero community complaints and strives towards continuous improvement and strengthening of the relationship with the communities in which we operate and construct.

WHG are Members of the Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter. One of the criteria for membership is that the company can demonstrate that it pays the Real Living Wage to employees and details of plans to pay their contractors a living wage, as set out by the Living Wage Foundation.
