Trio of topping out celebrations in London for William Hare

Global leader in engineered steel solutions, William Hare has celebrated a trio of successes with three London sites topping out in close succession.

Two out of three of the projects marked major milestones for London, setting a precedent for similar construction methods moving forward.

Timber Square, a hybrid timber and steel redevelopment, was the first of the trio to be completed, comprising of an extended 1950s printworks and a 15-storey new building.

The project saw William Hare build the largest hybrid steel / CLT structure in central London, fabricating and installing 2800 Tonnes of structural steelwork, 108 tonnes of which was reused steel, and 34,000 sq m of CLT.

Following Timber Square, 2 Aldermanbury Square officially topped out at the end of February. The 13-storey office building has been earmarked as one of the most environmentally progressive new buildings in the City of London, and will become home to international law firm, Clifford Chance.

The project saw the William Hare team install circa 4,500 Tonnes of structural steelwork. One of the most pivotal parts of this successful project was the installation of a bridge which provides a passageway over London Wall, into the Guildhall buildings on a skywalk beneath level 3 of 2 Aldermanbury Square.

The last of the London successes to reach structural completion is One Liverpool Street. The innovative 10-storey office scheme is a complex feat of engineering being built above three major railway lines, including London Underground and Elizabeth Line, and wrapping around a six-storey Crossrail ventilation shaft.

Matthew Nesbit, Director at William Hare Group said: “As a business, we are proud to have completed three projects in the capital, with two of them marking major milestones for London.

“William Hare prides itself on delivering quality and innovative solutions for our clients’ construction needs, and we are delighted to have achieved this at Timber Square by building the largest hybrid Steel / CLT structure in central London at present.”

“Additionally, with 2 Aldermanbury Square being recognised at one of the most environmentally progressive in the city, we hope to have set a precedent for the development of more sustainable buildings.”
